The GTF utilizes 22 Dell computer stations each equipped with a 400mHz processor and 128 Mb of RAM. All of these powerful computers are connected to a Dell Power Edge server allowing file sharing and administrative tasks. In addition, two Compaq stations dedicated to displaying Bloomberg information and analytics.

The Centre also incorporates the use of 2 Translux Datawalls to display real time feeds in the traditional brokerage Houses manner. The Boards display:

  • International Indices plus US Equities and Equity News
  • Canadian Equities and News, plus Currencies
  • Canadian Futures Market and Derivatives News
  • US Futures and Commodities and Commodities News
  • Top Canadian Equities, Top 5 Gainers and Top 5 Losers.

A real time Ticker Board is yet another useful tool which the Trading Centre has acquired in order to remain on the cutting edge. The Ticker Board displays the top 5 stocks by volume, percentage change, and absolute change, for all of the major North American equity markets.

All of the above equipment is connected directly to Reuters via a T1 Connection. This connection allows for real time feeds from all Canadian Exchanges, The New York Stock Exchange, The Amex, the NASDAQ The Chicago Board of Trade and Chicago Mercantile Exchange.

In order to properly show off the centre and teach students effectively the centre has invested in:

  • Two large T.V.s
  • S-VHS VCR
  • High Resolution Projector
The two large Sony televisions are constantly tuned into CNBC and RobTV. Used to keep students up to date on world issues and most importantly current stock market trends. In addition, our S-VHS VCR allows us to give presentations incorporating several different forms of media.

Lastly, our state of the art projection system gives us the ability to display a computer screen and the TV or VCR output on a large projection screen so that everyone in the room has a clear view of the material being discussed. Also, this system allows us to show the Trading Floor to those considering attending The Michael G. DeGroote School of Business or to those who have an interest in learning more about the Gould Trading Floor.

Clearly the Gould Trading Floor is a state of the art facility with top of the line equipment. We at the Centre encourage others to come and experience what the Centre has to offer.
